The Nigerian office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the timetable for 2020 examinations for School Candidates. The examination, which was earlier billed to start in April 2020, was delayed due to the outbreak of Coronavirus. The examination will now start on the 17th of August and end on the 12th of September 2020.
On Monday the 27th of July, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced that Senior Secondary School students in their final year will be allowed to resume so that their examinations may proceed. Since the announcement, schools around the country have resumed for this category of students on Monday the 3rd of August.
In a press release signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Bem Goong, on 29th July, the Ministry announced that West African Senior School Certificate Examination starts on the 17th of August while National Business and Technical Examination Board, (NABTEB) examinations will start on the 21st of September and end on the 15th of October 2020. Additionally, the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations(SSCE) conducted by NECO will start on the 5th of October and end on the 18th of November 2020. The Ministry also directed the examination bodies to release their examination timetable within the following seven days of the release.
In a press release signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Demianus Ojijeogu, WAEC Nigeria urged candidates who will be sitting for the examination to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the examination by avoiding examination malpractice and obeying COVID-19 safety protocols that have been put in place to avoid the further spread of the virus.
WAEC Nigeria, in the press release, urged candidates to be wary of different versions of the timetable in circulation as they did not emanate from the council.
