CAMPUS REPORTER has obtained a video showing attack on some students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, allegedly by the operatives of the security unit of the school.
The video, we gathered, was recorded on March 21, the day the university forcibly evicted female students from the Moremi Hall of Residence on the campus.
Analysing the video, a student said, “The man in Ankara is popularly called Baba Ibeji while another one them (those unleashing violent on students) is Mr Abiola Booster. They head the patrol unit and always in mufti. They are known my their Hillus car. The university cannot deny the faces in the Video.”
However, five students of the school are on trial for assaulting security operatives deployed to effect the eviction.
The students being prosecuted include Gbenga Oloruniran, a 400 level student of Geography; Olajide Ademola, a 500 level student of Electrical Electronics; Oyedeji Samson, 300 level student of Pharmacy; Jimoh Oladipupo, 300 level student of Biochemistry and Adeniji John, 300 level student of Electrical Electronics.
They were handed to the police by the university and had to spend several days in prison before they perfected the bail terms imposed by the court in Ile-Ife.
The school said the forced eviction of students was to pave way for the renovation of the hostels.
However, three weeks after the eviction, halls like Obafemi Awolowo Hall and Adekunle Fajuyi Hall still remain decayed, dilapidated.
