The Division of Student Affairs at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ife has finally addressed the pressing issue of accommodation on campus and its unavailability for students.
The issue of accommodation has been a longstanding problem due to the increasing number of students in the institution and the limited number of spaces in the halls of residence.
While speaking to stranded students who gathered at the entrance of his office on Thursday the 2nd of May 2019, the Dean of the Division of Students Affairs, Isiaka Aransi, said there is no bed space available for students of the institution who are yet to be given accommodation.
He also urged the students to seek alternatives elsewhere to avert an impending accommodation crisis.
“There is no more space in the halls of residence to accommodate students. All spaces available have been given out to other students. And the only available option is to seek alternatives elsewhere,” he pleaded.
Attempting to address a question posed by one of the stranded students concerning the act of revoking bed spaces given to students who are yet to be cleared, Profesor Aransi revealed that it is practically impossible to revoke those uncleared bed space given to students.
“There is nothing we can do about it those bed spaces that are yet to be cleared. Whether they clear it or not, it is their bed space. There is nothing we can do about it,” the Dean said.
