Following the unrest amongst students at their hostels on the 29th of September, the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Chief Security Officer, Colonel Abdullahi Gwandu (RTD), has announced that university rules do not support the embarrassment of students by security officers.
The Chief Security Officer disclosed this while speaking with the campus reporters in the university who paid a courtesy visit to him in a bid to improve relations between the students and the security division.
“Beating is outlawed even between you and your fellow student and no staff is allowed to use sticks on students, even ordinary hand. To tap with the hand is normal, I can play with students with hands, by that, he knows am not beating him but cracking jokes and boosting his morale,’ he said.
He also urged students to be calm and always abide by the school rules and regulations.
“Students must be seen to respect school rules…things are happening and different cases were brought before me,” he noted.
He pledged that different efforts have been taken to improve the security situation on campus. According to him, the Vice-Chancellor has approved the recruitment of more vigilantes and security personnel because, in the last five years, over seventy members of the security team have either lost their lives or retired.
