On Tuesday the 15th of March 2022, a popular Nigerian musician known as Innocent Ujah Idibia (Tuface), commissioned a multi-million Naira musical studio which he donated to the Obafemi Awolowo University. The singer was welcomed to the institution by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, alongside officers of the Great Ife Students’ Union.
Receiving the popular singer at the senate building, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, boasted that with this development, the university can be said to have the best recording studio in Nigeria.
“As far as the Nigerian university system is concerned. So we can proudly say that today, we have the best recording studio in the country of any university. And that is because of your magnanimity and philanthropic gesture.”
The commissioning of the newly donated studio took place at the Department of Music of the university where the studio is located. The management of the university, members of staff, students and other officials were also present to witness the event.
At the ceremony, the music icon revealed that Benue State University is the next in line to receive this kind of intervention from him while emphasising that Africa needs to have a total change in its educational system.
Reacting to the commissioning, the students expressed gratitude to the singer for fulfilling the pledge he promised to the university when he was awarded a fellow in 2019, stating that OAU is happy to associate with the icon.
It should be recalled that in March 2019, Innocent Idibia was awarded an honorary fellow of the School of Music by the Department of Music, Obafemi Awolowo University. This made him the pioneer recipient of the award which was presented to him at the first public lecture and fellowship award, held on the 20th of March 2019.
