A total of 7,198 students were officially admitted into the University of Uyo at the institution’s 27th Matriculation Ceremony held on Friday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Speaking at the ceremony which was held at the Main Campus in Nwaniba, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Enefiok Essien (SAN), congratulated the new students for emerging successful in the University’s admission process.
Professor Essien noted that the University of Uyo received applications from 32,625 candidates, but only 7,198 (about 22%) were admitted into the institution for the 2019/2020 session.
The Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria advised the new students against engaging in acts that are inconsistent with the rules and regulations of the University, as contained in their Student Handbooks.
He also tasked them to imbibe the culture of discipline and diligence towards their academics, as only that can guarantee them success in the University.
“Let me emphasize here that only a serious approach can guarantee a glorious and excellent result. In other words, to be successful, the opportunity you have to study in this prestigious University must be consolidated with adequate preparation,” he said.
The highlight of the event was the administering of oaths to the students by the University’s Registrar, Mr Aniediabasi Udofia, and the presentation by their respective Deans.
The 27th matriculation ceremony marked the last for Professor Essien, whose tenure as Vice-Chancellor comes to an end on the 1st December 2020.
