The embattled Students’ Union President of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Olatunji Adegboye who was arrested for allegedly being involved in cultism by the Ogun State Police Command has dropped a suicide note.
Olatunji who has been suspended by the management of the polytechnic dropped the suicide note on his Facebook page on Saturday accusing the school management of being responsible for his predicament.
The Students’ Union President threatened to commit suicide claiming there was no one to fight for him since his case was adjourned.
In the suicide note, Olatunji lamented his plight saying he was fighting for the hike in accommodation fees by the management and now he has been abandoned to his fate.
The SU president said no one should mourn him after he is dead.
“Let no one mourn me when I finally pass on into the luminary realm, for when I need the continued support of activists, comrades, stakeholders, and sane individuals in the society to make me sail this trying time, no one, I mean no one was seen.”
Recall that the SU President was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command on February 9th for allegedly involving in cultism.
He was paraded by the police at the police headquarters Eleweran, Abeokuta where he denied ever been a member of the cult group saying he was on his way to the church when the cult group tried to initiate him.
Olatunji was subsequently arraigned in court where he pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The suicide note reads “Glory be to God for this probably the last breathe in my nostrils, no matter how fainting it may seem. More importantly, this may be the last thing I write since my hope to write a statement of accounts, proffer economic solutions to the Nigerian financial problems has been dashed and shattered by the powers that be.
“I accepted to study Banking and Finance to fulfil my dreams but all I live to write now is a suicide note.
“I was arrested on the 9th of February, 2020, and got transferred to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Eleweran, Ogun State. I was detained for 144 hours before being charged to court finally on the 17th of February, 2020. It’s been 114 days now since my case got adjourned, and to my utmost dismay, no individual or group has done anything to revamp my hope.
“They say if you are silent in the days of adversity, you have taken the side of the oppressor. Now the question is, “Who is raising a voice in my favour?”
“Is it a crime to stand against the annihilation of the management against the students that gave me the mandate to defend their interest?
“Is it a crime for me to object the hike in accommodation price in the interest of striving Nigerian students?
“Is it a crime for me to send a red signal to the management in their quest to increase school fees while pointing them to other means of IGR to execute their projects?
“Let no one mourn me when I finally pass on into the luminary realm, for when I need the continued support of activists, comrades, stakeholders, and sane individuals in the society to make me sail this trying time, no one, I mean no one was seen. Truly Yours, Comr. Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji (a one-time advocate of the masses).”
Meanwhile, Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi said Olatunji should rather defend himself in court instead of going ahead to commit suicide.
Oyeyemi said the suicide threat by the SU president is not the business of the police adding that he was only trying to whip up sentiment.
The PPRO said: “That he wants to commit suicide is not the police’s business. It is none of our business.
“He was arrested for alleged cultism, he has been charged to court and the case is still in court. So, if he says he is innocent, he should go and defend himself in court.
“Anybody that wants to kill himself doesn’t need to tell everybody about it.
“He is only trying to whip up sentiment, unnecessary sentiment at that. He has been charged to court, so let him prove innocence in court.”
The Chairman National Association of Nigerian Students, Ogun Joint Campus Committee, Comrade, Tomiwa Bamgbose, however, disclosed on Sunday that Olatunji has been found.
“It is with utmost joy that I bring to the general public that our brother and co- fighter in the emancipation of Nigerian students has been found, though he has been in a deplorable state. But I want to authoritatively assure us all that he has since been given adequate care and attention.
“Contrary to his opinion, we are are in this together, and as the dogged fighters that we are, we don’t quit when we are tired or frustrated, we quit when we have won.
“We need your prayers for his emotional stability at the moment. We serve a living God and we believe God will not forsake him, neither will He allow his grace over him to cease. His hope will be rekindled, his dream will be revived and his life will get back on track.”
