The governing council of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) has announced the appointment of Professor Lawal Suleman Bilbis as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University with effect from July 30, 2019.
Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Hon. Justice Pearl Enejere (rtd.), announced this at the university, saying that the tenure of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor will finish on the 29th of July and the council approved the new appointment at its 156th meeting held on Wednesday the 10th of July 2019.
Professor Bilbis hails from Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara state and works in the Department of Biochemistry, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc. Hons) in Biochemistry in 1986 from Usmanu Danfodiyo University and later attended the University of Essex, Colchester, England where he graduated with a PhD in Biological Chemistry, in 1992.
He is a former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Birnin-Kebbi and has held several administrative positions in UDUS including Head of Department of Biochemistry, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
As a Biochemist, he started his career in the General Hospital, Gusau, joining the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 1988 as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Biochemistry. He was subsequently promoted through the ranks and become a Professor in 2002.
