The English Premier League made its return for the 2020/2021 season over the weekend, with the first match played on the 12th of September, 2020. This coming season will look to be different from past seasons due to the compressed fixture line-up, owing to the current coronavirus pandemic, which affected last season’s finish.
This season is still experiencing the effects of the pandemic with the biggest one being games being played behind closed doors. Although new plans have started bringing supporters back into the grounds gradually. Nevertheless, the new season is here and we are looking forward to it.
The new season started on Saturday, with the first game between Arsenal and Fulham at Craven Cottage. The Gunners beat their London rivals 3-0 with goals coming from Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel who made his Premier League debut, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Liverpool opened their title defence with a thrilling 4-3 win over Leeds United with Mohamed Salah scoring a hat-trick. The Reds were able to hold off Leeds but Marcelo Bielsa’s side really pushed the champions all the way and will be an exciting watch this season.
Crystal Palace beat Southampton 1-0 from Wilfried Zaha while new signings Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick scored in their debuts for Newcastle United, defeating West Ham United 2-0 at the London Stadium.
