A senior lecturer at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), formerly Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), in Okitipupa, Dr Gilbert Ibitola, has reportedly died.
According to family sources, the deceased, aged 58, was not sick before he died in his apartment on Friday 5th June 2020.
His mysterious death has sent fear and anxiety rippling through the University community.
His demise was confirmed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities of the institution’s branch.
According to a statement released by the Chairman of the ASUU Chapter of the institution, Dr Dipo Akomolafe, the deceased, who was of the Department of Physical Sciences, died on Friday.
Akomolafe described the deceased as a brilliant scholar and a great physicist who devoted his life to teaching, research and community service.
In his statement: “The deceased was a humorous and humble academician whose life was worthy of emulation.”
“We announced his departure with deep regret but total submission to the will of God. He reportedly slumped and died in his apartment on Friday. Until his death, he was a lecturer in the Department of Physical Sciences and he was once the acting and pioneer Head of Department.”
