The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) branch in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, Ondo State has joined the nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The labour is demanding a new minimum wage of 50 thousand naira. The current minimum wage in Nigeria is 18 thousand naira; yet, it’s not implemented in all states of the federation.
To push for the implementation of the wage by the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, the NLC directed all workers in both the private sector and the public sector beginning Wednesday.
In compliance, the AAUA branch of ASUU directed its members to stop all academic-related services in the institution.
In the directive obtained by CAMPUS REPORTER, the branch chairman, Sola Fayose, said, the branch chairman, “Therefore, as directed by the leadership of the union, all ASUU members (AAUA inclusive) are part of the strike action declared by the NLC as from midnight of Wednesday, 26th September 2018.
“Do not engage in supervision of project or thesis.
“Do not force any academic to teach, supervise theses and projects at any level or attend meetings.”
