The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has applauded his wife, the First Lady of the state, Chief (Mrs) Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu, over the Award bestowed on her by the Sun Newspaper as the Most Supportive First Lady for the Year 2020.
This was contained in a press release dated October 17, 2021, signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Richard Olatunde.
Praising the First Lady for her extraordinary passion and love for the girl child and women, Governor Akeredolu acknowledged her enormous contributions and supportive roles towards the development of the state, the people and his administration.
“For me, the award exemplifies a great thing. You make an effort in your little way, you think out of the box and do extraordinary things, and you are recognised. For the fact that The Sun Newspaper has come to recognise her efforts implies a lot to me.”
The governor added that he knows his wife’s efforts, as well as the sleepless nights she had to make this happen. He added that whatever she does, she believes in it strongly and as soon as she got to the state, she developed an interest in girls and their development.
Recall that Sun Publishing Limited deemed the Ondo First Lady worthy of an award of the most supportive First Lady among the 36 states which was awarded to her on October 16, 2021, at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu was the initiator of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN) and has been giving incredible support to the Governor Akeredolu-led administration through her several other progressive initiatives including Benmore, FOWOSO, Ondo Widows Care, Solano Birth Kits and Vanguards and Ondo Summer Tennis Clinic.
Through her initiatives, several women, girls and youths, in general, have benefited from these programmes.
The colourful event held at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, includes Governor Akeredolu, his Deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale; Business Mogul, Chief Rotimi Ibidapo, sons and daughters of the Akeredolu family were also present to honour and rejoice with the First Lady at the well-attended event.
At the event were other twenty-four eminent Nigerians who also bagged an award of excellence.
