Since Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, reopened for academics on January 2, there has not been power supply to the academic area. This has made reading difficult exercise for students preparing for their examinations.

Our correspondent captured still pictures of students studying with touch and candle light in various classes.

“There is high tendency of students failing this semester and may not be unconnected to the irregularities of the management,”  a student Uthman Sahad said, speaking absence of performance enhancing services, including also library access, in the school less than two weeks to exams.

The Dean of Students’ Affairs, Isiaka Aransi, has said students should ‘adjust’ and read their books anyhow’, saying the school has become incapacitated due to the strike embarked upon by the non-teaching staff who are responsible for these services.

Left group, Education Rights Campaign on Friday condemned the situation, blaming poor funding for the education sector in Nigeria.
