Three officials of the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, could not account for a sum of N108,000 belonging to the association, the legislative arm held on Friday.
Consequently, the officials, namely, Adesope Ibrahim, president; Emmanuel Ajayi, financial Secretary; and Oloruntunbi Philemon, Adesope Ibrahim, the Financial secretary; Ajayi Emmanuel and Oloruntunbi Philemon, treasurer, were impeached by the parliament at its sitting of Friday.
The motion to impeach the officials followed the consideration of the association’s final audit report, which revealed a sum of N108,000 was missing.
Then, following the vote called by speaker Aina Olaoluwa vote, the impeachment motion was supported the majority of the parliamentarians.
“After thorough scrutinization and questioning, it was discovered that over #108,000 was missing from the association’s account,” the speaker told our correspondent after the proceedings. “Hence, the majority of the Parliamentarians voted for the impeachment of the three executives involved. They’ve also been asked to refund the money within a week.”
Confirming the impeachment, the President, Adesope Ibrahim said he had no objection to the impeachment, but suggested the financial secretary was to be blamed. “I have no objection to the impeachment. The Financial Secretary was unable to balance the account.”
It should be recalled that, exactly a year ago, the erstwhile resident of the same association, Oluwaseun Oyeniyi was also impeached by the parliamentarians for misappropriation of funds.
