The Ife Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Students’ Association (IFUTSA) of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has impeached its Public Relations Officer following allegations of gross misconduct.
According to a Principal Officer of the Students Representative Body who pleaded anonymity, it was gathered that the Public Relations Officer was impeached due to gross misconduct and neglect of official duties, stating that his removal was agreed upon by a two-thirds majority of members of the Body.
“The PRO was impeached on the grounds of gross misconduct and negligence of duty, which was confirmed by two-thirds of the SRB (Student Representative Body).”
“This is the basic requirement for the impeachment of an officer of the association as stipulated by the constitution of IFUTSA,” he said.
Another student of the department, who spoke with CAMPUS REPORTER, stated that the Public Relations Officer failed to carry out his constitutional duties, such as attending the Students’ Representative Body meetings and establishing the Editorial Team.
In a press statement released by the Students Representative Body, they confirmed the above, revealing that he failed “to get an approval before leaving a Budget and Audit Committee Meeting on the 10th of May, 2019 and also missing a rescheduled meeting with the same committee on the 14th of May, 2019 without any prior notice of his absence, only for an apology letter to be written to the Speaker 4 days to the sitting which held on the 25th of May, 2019.”
Additionally, the Public Relations Officer failed to present proposed members of the Editorial Committee to the Student Representative Body.
“Failure to submit a list of names for proposed members of the Editorial committee by the time stipulated by the Constitution in ARTICLE V, S.C (2) at the Second Business Meeting which was held on the 25th of April, 2019 on the basis of HEALTH ISSUES, after which he was given the grace to bring the list at the NEXT SRB SITTING which held yesterday, 25th of May, 2019 exactly 4 weeks after.”
“It is worthy to note to the members of the Association that the PRO came into the sitting at some minutes past 4 pm for a sitting scheduled for 12 pm without any notice of coming late. The PRO finally submitted the Lists at about 6 pm yesterday.”
Meanwhile, as at the time of writing this report, all efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer proved abortive as all phone calls and messages were not acknowledged.
