Two post-UTME candidates of Obafemi Awolowo University and a commercial motorcyclist were crushed to death on Monday the 2nd of September, at Moro junction, Ife-Ede-Osogbo expressway.
The candidates were reportedly returning to Ife town on a commercial motorcycle after their post UTME, which took place at the Centre for Distance Learning in the Moro Campus of the University.
One of the candidates and the motorcyclist were confirmed dead at the spot of the incident while the other candidate was rushed to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife.
An eye witness, who gave an account of the accident, stated that the victims were crushed to death by a luxurious bus that allegedly drove against traffic rules and collided with the bike. It is important to note that the road is severely dilapidated and is now on the verge of becoming unnavigable.
The other candidate who was rushed to OAUTHC was confirmed dead at the hospital.
While confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Folashade Odoro, said the commissioner of Police in the state has ordered an investigation into the fatal incident.
Some aggrieved motorcycle riders, road users and other motorists who set up bonfires on the road immediately after the incident, lamented over the deplorable state of the express road and the specific spot where the incident had occurred.
While speaking with newsmen after the incident, the Public Relations Officer of Obafemi Awolowo University, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, bemoaned the accident and charged motorists to comply with traffic rules and regulations while sympathising with the family of the deceased.
