The newly elected executives of the Student Union Government, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, have been inaugurated.
The inauguration ceremony which took place at the university auditorium on Tuesday had six lectures on schedule. The lectures focused on various themes, including transparency and accountability, gender issues and leadership qualities.
Delivering his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Joseph Ahaneku commended the past administration led by Nwambu Henry for their transparent government and cooperation.
He stressed the fact that for a government to function effectively, the leader has to cooperate with other members to achieve a common goal, adding that cooperation is the key to success.
The Vice Chancellor also commended the peaceful election that was held late last year to usher in Comrade Igwebuike Ikenna as the new union President, charging him to act responsibly and avoid being money conscious.
Prof Ahaneku also enjoined the student judicial council and student representative council to work hand in hand with the executive arm to produce a transparent government.
Contributing, the Dean of student affairs congratulated the out going executives for a transparent government.
He urged the new executive to be very transparent and always seek the consent of the university before getting funds outside the school.
The DSA also expressed joy on the number of females in the union stressing that females are now being part of the government which leads to gender equality.
The outgoing president, Nwambu, while speaking in an interview with our correspondent, congratulated the new president, he urged him to lead the union to greater heights to be example to other schools.
Accepting the mantle of leadership, Comrade Igwebuike retreated his commitment to serving the union better. He pledged readiness hand in hand with other members to push the school union to greater heights.
Comrade Igwebuike also said that he would try his possible best to fulfill the promises he made during his campaign and bring a positive change to the school student union government.
Highlights of the event included hand over of the union’s official file by outgoing present, the lecturers and oath taking by the newly elected officers.
