The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Oyo State chapter, has condemned the decision of the governing council of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, on the suspension of the activities of unions of both the staff and students in the school.
In a statement made available to CAMPUS REPORTER on Thursday, the chairman, NANS Oyo axis, Moronkola Abiola expressed displeasure at the autocratic regulation as instructed by the governing council of the school.
CAMPUS REPORTER however gathered that the college has been under lock and keys for more than three months without work as a result of non-payment of staff salaries.
However, NANS Oyo State leader Mr Moronkola posited that the solution to the lingering crises should not include the suspension of the activities of the unions as they were informed that no pay no work policy has also been directed to be used by the management in other to force the staff to work,
He viewed this as an act perceived to be an attempt to victimize and silence the voice of staff and the students of the institution.
Mr Moronkola further called on the governing body of the institution to reinstate those unions with immediate effect because the umbrella body of all students’ unions (NANS) would not take the act of oppression lightly.
He added that the association wouldn’t mind moving the body’s (NANS) secretariat to the institution (Oyo state college of agriculture and technology, Igboora) soonest if the reinstatement of those unions were not done promptly.
