Media personalities speak on the promotion of women through the media
In the spirit of International Women’s Day, media personalities have aired their opinion on the promotion of women through the media.
This year’s commemoration of Women’s Day follows the theme: Balance For Better, which allows people advocate for gender parity across all sectors of the economy, especially in areas where women have traditionally been disadvantaged.
Speaking to a CAMPUS REPORTER correspondent, the Head of Programs at Unizik FM, Mr Michael Ugokwe stated that women should receive as much attention in the media as their male counterparts as this will help cover up the already existing imbalance.
He added that women who are excelling in their different fields should be promoted to encourage younger ones.
Speaking on the issue, the Art Editor for the Sun Newspaper, Mr Henry Akubuiro, remarked that women are not under-promoted in the media because an achiever will always ‘hog the limelight.”
He noted that as long as women continue to compete with men in every sector, their achievements will continue to be recognised.
Another On-Air Personality at Dream FM, Ezinne Aninwe, encouraged women to be more media-friendly and build relationships with people in the media, as this will help increase their visibility.
This year, several media organizations all over the world (including the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism) have joined movements like #MoveForWomen all in the bid to increase women’s visibility.
As the celebration proceeds, women have generally been encouraged to be more assertive in their sectors as this will create a healthier environment for them and increase overall productivity.
