The Lagos State University (LASU) announced the resumption of its usual activities on Thursday, February 25, 2021. This comes after the suspension of the Non-academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSANU) strike earlier in the same day.
The Institution’s academic activities are set to return to normal from Friday 26 February 2021 after it was suspended due to the unions’ indefinite strike which commenced on February 5 2021.
This information was relayed to the students of the institution after an official press statement was revealed by the institution’s student union body through its public Relation Officer. The press statement stated that the institution will resume its academic activities fully by Friday 26, February 2021, warning that students are not to resume on campus yet as the institution management would meet to deliberate on the official resumption date.
The students were strongly warned to disregard any news from any other source other than the office of the public relations officer of the institution student union in order to avoid complications.
It is important to know that the unions went on strike over the failure of the Federal Government to resolve issues with the payroll system, they are also protesting against the sharing formula of the N40 billion earned academic allowance and the non-payment of arrears of the new minimum wage.
However, while the strike was still on, both unions shut the university gates and refused staff and students entry into the school premises which, in turn, led to the postponement of the university’s ongoing first-semester exam, indefinitely.
The recent news has come with mixed reactions from the students. While some are fully prepared and eager to conclude their exams, others have suddenly developed cold feet towards their suspended exams and are scared of what the future might hold for them.
