LASU Postpones Examinations Indefinitely

As the 2019/2020 first semester examination of Lagos State University (LASU) draws to an end, the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the university has started a strike which began on 8 February 2021 due to a breach in agreement with the government.

It is important to note that the NASU went on a 3-day warning strike in January, where they locked the institution’s gates and refused to allow academic staff and students come in with their cars and vehicles but opened the smaller gate to allow students and staff come into the school premises by foot, forcing staff and students car owners to park their cars outside the school.

The union’s recent strike has led to new developments as the institution gates were closed, students and staff were locked out of the school premises and refused entry, only the LASU International School pupils were allowed into the school premises using another gate located behind the institution’s Faculty of Education. This has also led to the postponement of the General Studies of Nigeria, GNS, and other courses exams.

In the news bulletin released by the Institution Center for Information, Press and Public Relations, CIPPR, the Director for Centre for General Studies of Nigeria confirmed the postponement of GNS exam because of the union’s ongoing strike and added that the new date for the examination will be communicated soon.

Also the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Olumoko while addressing the crowd of students in the morning said” students should go back to their respective homes and hostel because the examinations are hereby postponed till further notice,” he further said: “The institution will get back to them through their different platforms if the exam will hold the next day.”

The recent news has come as a shock to students who were very eager to take and complete their pending examinations as soon as possible.

Students were advised to check the University information platforms, websites and bulletins from time to time to get the latest development concerning the examination.
