The Student Union in the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has just crowned its first female president.
Miss Ahmed Tawakalt Adeola, who has served in different capacities prior to this, was elected on the 7th of March 2019.
Following her election, she released a vote of thanks where she urged the entire student body and her colleagues to work with her to improve student representation in the University.
“However, I’d like to plead and solicit your indulgence in a unionism for all system, where we see ourselves as one big family. The time for politics has ended, let’s get into the era of administration so that we can be able to nurture to estimable feats, laudable milestones and groundbreaking heights our union that has been rebirthed,” she announced.
She then went on to speak about her achievement in being the first woman elected, noting that this will only boost her in carrying out her responsibilities as the President of the Student Union.
“l want you to take off your mind any gender barriers in respect to my ability to deliver as the president, I want to echo in you, the solace of assertion of that fact that this new administration will deliver beyond imagination. Take this from me, this is because it is not a unionism of gender, but a unionism of all by all and for all,” she concluded.
