Members of staff, sportsmen, women and lovers were saddened to hear about the demise of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Assistant Director of Sports, Coach Oliver, who passed away on Tuesday at his residence in Ado-Ekiti.
According to a relative of the deceased, Coach Oliver went to a filling station with his son around 7 pm and returned home shortly afterwards. He complained of some chest pain before he reportedly died around 8 pm without prior illness.
Unfortunately, attempts to reach the family proved abortive as no one from his family was available to speak to the press.
While speaking to the Director of Sports, Coach Josiah Adesogan, he described late Oliver as a humble and loyal colleague. Coach Josiah said there was no time the deceased complained of any illness before he died.
Esther Oribamise, could not believe the news about the death of coach Oliver. According to the alumnus, it was shocking news for her because herself and Coach Oliver spoke on Friday before travelling out of town. “Coach Oliver was like a father to me; fun to be with,” Oribamise added.
The captain of the male football school team, known as EKSU Galacticos, Rasheed Opeyemi, while speaking to our correspondent described Coach Oliver as his school father and he could not believe the news until he got to the sports centre.
“The late coach persuaded me to transfer his youth service location to Ado-Ekiti which I wanted to see him about today (Wednesday) until I heard of his demise,” he said.
The Coach of the EKSU Galacticos, Babajide Coupon, said: “Coach Oliver promised to see our game today (Wednesday) at the school field.”
“Till we departed yesterday (Tuesday) he was active and hearty.”
Coupon added that Coach Oliver could always tell if he was sick and request leave.
The gaffer said the galacticos will be using a blackstrap during footballing activities to mourn the demise of the late deputy director of sport.
The late Coach Oliver has been kept in the mortuary till further arrangements are made.
