The Management of the University of Benin has announced the indefinite extension of resumption for its students and staff, citing the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
This was disclosed in a statement released by the University’s spokesperson, Dr Benedicta Ehanire, on Tuesday in Benin.
Ehanire, who revealed that the extension was prompted by continuous uncertainties presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, said no date has been fixed for resumption.
”In line with the position of the Federal Ministry of Education that no date has been fixed for the reopening of schools, UNIBEN has extended resumption until further notice.”
She added that “members of staff are to keep working from home.”
“It is important to point out that staff on essential duties, including health care, security, fire service and utilities (electricity and water) are to continue to make the necessary sacrifices while observing all the safety rules,” she said.
The University Management shut down activities at the school on 23rd March 2020 following a Federal Government order in the wake of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.
The order directed the closure of all academic institutions nationwide.
