The Kwara State Government has begun community sensitisation campaigns across the state on the coronavirus pandemic, in a bid to mitigate the spread of the virus in its environs.
This comes barely one month after CAMPUS REPORTER published a report on how poor community sensitisation and awareness fostered the breach of safety protocols in the state.
According to the statement which was signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye, the Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Religious Affairs (Islam), Ustaz Zubair Ibrahim Dan-Maigoro attended the Friday Juma’at prayer at the Central Juma’at Mosque in Offa to deliver the Governor’s message on the predicament of COVID-19 and how its spread can be curtailed.
Mallam Dan-Maigoro advised Muslims in the community to adhere to safety precautions in order to mitigate the spread of the virus in the state.
He said: “COVID-19 is real, hence the need for all and sundry to embrace the safety protocols which includes the use of face masks, regular hand washing, physical distancing and use of hand sanitizers put in place by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in order to guard against loss of more lives to the pandemic.”
He further clarified that the coronavirus disease is serious and advised the public to adhere to safety measures. “COVID-19 is not a scam, it’s a serious disease that should not be toyed with,” Dan-Maigoro told the Muslims at the Mosque.
He also handed over face masks and hand sanitizers to the Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muyideen Hussain, for use at the Mosque.
As at 21st of August 2020, the total number of recorded cases in the state is 920 according to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
