Over the weekend, the University of Ibadan chapter of the National Union of Campus Journalists paid homage to the Publisher of Premium Times Dapo Olorunyomi, the Director of the Media Career Development Network, Lekan Otunfodurin, the Online Editor for The Nation newspaper, Sunday Oguntola and others.
At the event, over 100 campus journalists were inducted into the union after proper training to test their abilities and to intimate them on the basics of journalism.
The event which was themed: “Digital media, Networking & ICT: Prospects & Challenges for Individuals and National Development,” was attended by dignitaries including Edmund Obilo, Mr Chude Jidenowo, Nurudeen Bakare, Prof. Keye Abiona, Dr Demola Lewis, Dr Francis Egbokhare, Dr Bayo Ajala and others.
In recognition of their journalistic acumen and prowess, Mr Lekan Otunfodurin and Sunday Oguntola were also appointed as Editorial Advisers, while Mr Dapo Olorunyomi was installed as the Grand Patron of the association, ably represented by Mr Ben Ezemalu.
In his remark, the President of the Union (Martins Isaac), noted that the people in the aforementioned positions will aid in the progress of the Union, especially in grooming Campus Journalists as they tread the path of journalism.
While charging the inductees, he urged them to be steadfast in their pursuit of the news and critical in their write-ups.
He said: “With the installation of the two big Editorial Advisers and the Grand Patron who have sterling profiles in the media space, it is our belief that they will help expand the frontiers of excellence in UCJ UI.”
The first UCJ UI President, Dr Bayo Ajala who decorated the Editorial Advisers, expressed his utmost delight with the progress the union has recorded so far, noting that most of the special posts and honour currently in existence were not in use in his time.
In their brief remarks, Mr Lekan Otufodunrin and Mr Sunday Omokunmi expressed their sincere gratitude for the position conferred on them with Mr Sunday promising to support UCJ members to help them grow in the field of journalism.
