The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced August 15 2021 as the tentative date for the draws of the interclub competitions for the 2021/2022 season, while the preliminary stage starts on September 10th 2021.
In the Executive Committee meeting held in Rabat, Morocco on Friday 16 July 2021, the EXCO announced a first calendar for the interclub competitions for the 2021/2022 season.
According to the communique released after the meeting, the kick-off will be on September 10, 2021, with the draw for the preliminary rounds scheduled for 15 August 2021, at the latest. Also, CAF said the bids to host the interclub finals will be opened in November 2021.
The Exco took note of the reports of the inspection missions organised by CAF for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2021 in Cameroon which informed that the work to complete stadiums and other facilities is progressing well.
The communique further stated that a final inspection visit in mid-August will assess the progress of the Olembe stadium and the possibility of organising the next home match of the Cameroon national team in the September 2021 window.
The Executive Committee, meanwhile, instructed the Interclub Competitions Committee to accelerate the feasibility study of the African Supernational League project.
The President of CAF, Patrice Motsebe, had earlier confirmed the move to implement the African Super League project as a new tournament ran under the umbrella of CAF, with large financial returns for the sides taking part. The league is expected to bring in $3 billion over a five-year period for the continent according to FIFA President, Gianni Infantino.
