The Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife inducted new members for the 2019/2020 academic session on Saturday 31st of July, 2021. The event, which took place at the postgraduate lecture room of the Faculty of Administration, was attended by new and old members as well as alumni of the association and important guest speakers.
The training session was handled by Mr Adejumo Kabir, an alumnus of the association, a former Investigative Journalist at Premium Times and now Investigative Journalist for HumAngle Media. He explained the ethics of journalism and encouraged the new inductees to be active members of the association as being a member of the association in his undergraduate days has helped him and still helping him a lot.
The guest lecturer, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu, the Chairman of National Union of Journalists, Osun State Council who was ably represented by the Hon. Secretary of the Union, Comrade Bukola Elufadejin, admonished the new inductees as well as other members of the association to take whatever they are learning in the field of journalism very seriously as they are the future of the nation.
Mr Ismail Taiwo, the founder of Oduduwa News who is also an alumnus of the Association, advised the new inductees to be diligent in their areas of journalism.
The President of the Association, Titilola Babajide, during his speech, explained that the induction is being done in the Rain Semester (as opposed to the Harmattan semester when it usually happens) because of the pandemic which disrupted the academic activities of most Nigeria universities.
The inductees took the Oath of Membership and the President of the Association gave the vote of thanks. Certificates of membership were presented to the new members of the association at the end of the event.
