Ahead of the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial election, the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu has made a downward review of the tuition fee payable in one of the state-owned universities, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
In an official statement released to the University community, the acting registrar, Mr Akinfemiwa who wrote on behalf of the acting Vice-Chancellor, professor Olugbenga Ige noted that the governor has directed the University’s management to consider a reduction in the tuition fee after an appeal by the Students’ Union body.
However, out of the six (6) faculties in the university, only the Faculty of Law failed to enjoy the decrement in fees. Various faculties of sciences and social and management sciences tuition fees was reduced from N150,000 to N120,000. While the faculties of Education and Arts were reduced from N100,000 to N80,000.
N150,000 remains the tuition fee payable for the faculty of Law, while faculty of Agriculture’s new fee is N100,000 instead of the initial N150,000.
The University management further implored the students to take advantage of the new tuition fee by paying their fees and register their courses.
“I write on the directive of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga E. IGE to inform all returning students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko that following an earlier appeal by students, and in view of the economic effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic in the country on parents and students, the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi AKEREDOLU, SAN, has directed that the University should consider a reduction in tuition fees in a way that quality education can still be sustained in the University.
As a follow up to the above, a meeting between the Governor, the University and the student leaders was convened.
All students are therefore advised to take advantage of the reduced fees by paying their school fees and registering for their courses without further delay,” the memo reads.
