OAU Postgraduate Students Accuse Management of Exploitation
The Postgraduate students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have accused the university management exploitation. This was done by the #SayNoToOAUPGEploitation campaign committee.
The students expressed their displeasure at the continuous payment made compulsory for them after final oral defence, delay sittings of students’ final result upon completion of their programmes among others in a communique made available to our reporter on Monday.
Such charges as contained in the communique include: library fee, T-ship, sport levy, examination, bench fee, examiners fee among other alleged illegal charges. They claimed to be bearing the brunt of the universities financial struggles.
Part of the communique reads: “The continuous payment after final oral defence is pathetic and also an inhumane treatment of Nigerians students. Despite the outrageous increment, nothing has been done to fast-track our results”
It also states:
“As a university which prides herself as a foremost university in the country, with efforts of operating based on well-established international standards, we find the policy find the policy of charging us heavily for our period of inactivity alien in the comity of prestigious varsities”
Subsequently, they have threatened to take steps which the management may not like if after two weeks from the release of the communique, they don’t get response.
“We hope, not later than two weeks from now to get prompt response to be review for our next line of action”
